Australian Sheep and Wool Show Report
We are still buzzing with excitement from the recently concluded Feature Breed at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show.
The Dohne Marquee was a sight to behold with eight studs from three different states showcasing their finest exhibits.
Last year studs donated Dohne fleeces to the Australian Woolcraft ladies that did an outstanding job of showcasing the Dohne Merino in their Feature Breed display.
We are very grateful for the fantastic support the ADBA received over the three days, too many people to mention. All parties were presented with a thank you gift bag, which included a beautiful Ethical Outback Wool garment made from the Coonong Station Dohne Merino Clip (AMSEA Flock).
We would also like to express our gratitude to the esteemed judges who presided over the event;
Dries Pienaar, White Wools Dohne Merino Stud Eastern Cape, South Africa; Jan van der Walt, BKB, South Africa; David Berrell, Midgery Dohne Stud Walgett, NSW; Tegan Falkner Quality Wool, South Australia and associate judge Kylie Fotuaika, Quality Wool South Australia. They did a remarkable job in evaluating the exhibits.
A special mention goes out to Ethical Outback Wool and our models for the daily Fashion Parade’s.
Aside from the show itself, the weekend was a great chance to catch up with friends, meet other Dohne breeders and immerse ourselves in all things Dohne. The camaraderie and passion within our community are truly inspiring and events like these only strengthen our bonds.
The Show Committee would also like to take the opportunity to acknowledge and thank our sponsors this year; Elders, Shearwell, Sapien Technology, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Riverina Wool Testers, Ethical Outback Wool, Quality Wool, Central West Genetics, Fox & Lillie Rural, Australian Community Media, Olsson’s and Shamrock Hotel.
It was great to have both Longeranong Agricultural College and Moama Anglican Grammer students once again participate in our education program.
Lastly, we would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all winners and place getters, including Calga for Grand Champion Ram and Macquarie for Supreme Dohne Exhibit and Most Successful Breeder.
The Australian Sheep and Wool Show has become a highlight on our calendars and we can’t wait to come together once again to celebrate the remarkable Dohne breed.
Until then, stay connected, keep breeding and continue to strive for excellence.
Best regards,
Darren Gurnett Convenor, ADBA Show and Education Committee

Dohne Merino Journal
With emphasis on both meat and wool traits, it presented the opportunity to have a true dual purpose sheep, which provided an alternative to the fine or medium wool Merinos, and specialist prime lamb breeds or composites that have been traditionally used in sheep enterprises.

Dohne Data
Reminder to Dohne breeders, there is a high probability Brett will not be able to process and report the Dohne data effectively for both the September 2024 Sheep Genetics Dohne analysis runs.
If members could please work on not submitting Dohne data for the month of September 2024, that would be greatly appreciated.
