With the $3900 top-priced ram at the Mollerin Rock and Far Valley Dohne on-property ram sale at Cadoux on Monday were buyers Anthony (left) and Peter (second right) Smith, LR & MJ Smith, Carnamah, Mollerin Rock and Far Valley stud principal, Mitchell Applegate (second left) and Elders WA stud stock manager, Nathan King. The Smith family bought four rams in the sale at an average of $3625.

Prices topped at $4200 twice at last week’s Chirniminup on-property Dohne ram sale at Nyabing, when both rams were knocked down to Millstream Pastoral, Manypeaks. With one of the top-priced rams were Nutrien Livestock, Katanning agent and sale auctioneer Mark Warren (left), Nutrien Livestock Breeding manager, Roy Addis, who purchased the rams for Millstream Pastoral and Chirniminup principal Rachel Browne.

World Dohne Merino Conference, South Africa
The Dohne Merino Society of SA is excited to host the World Dohne Merino Conference in 2026. This event will be in collaboration with the 60 year of existence of the Dohne Merino Society of South Africa.

Bookings can be made directly on the website and they will be posting more information as the time passes.
The Dohne Merino World Conference, to be held from 18 – 24 October 2026, at the Arabella Hotel, in Hermanus, South Africa. This prestigious event promises to bring together Dohne Merino breeders, industry experts, and enthusiasts from across the globe, fostering collaboration, innovation, and excellence in our shared passion.
The week after the conference (26 to 31 October 2026), we are planning a post-conference tour to the central and eastern parts of South Africa.

Calls for Expressions of Interest – Dohne Sustainability Program
The Dohne Sustainability Trial Program is calling for commercial Dohne flocks to register an expression of interest in being a participating flock in a planned sire reference program.
The objective of the program is to develop the sheep’s ability to resist the major traits that lead to the loss of sheep.

Susceptibility to diseases of the feet.

These 4 issues would account for the biggest losses in sheep flocks. All of these issues are under genetic control. With rising levels of resistance to all the chemicals we use to control these issues it makes sense to develop the sheep’s natural genetic resistance to these problems.
We are asking for expressions of interest from commercial Dohne flocks in areas where there is high pressure from internal and external parasites and prolonged wet periods which lead to foot disease.
What are we offering?
Your flock will get access to some of the best genetics in the breed through reference sires being used in your flock.
Your flock program will be facilitated by Sheep Matters consultancy. https://www.sheepmatters.com.au/
A full flock analysis and industry benchmarking will be provided by Sheep Matters.
This will give you the opportunity to have your flock at the leading edge of genetic development and productivity.
This will be funded through the money we intend to raise to do this program.
