Jamestown Show Report
The Dohne Breed was well represented at the Jamestown Show on the 2^ndand 3^rd of October.
With the support of 4 South Australian studs: Babirra, Clover Downs, Eagle Ridge, and Ulooloo, and Macquarie from NSW and Stirling from Victoria there was an eye-catching display in front of the ram shed.
The Jamestown Show Committee were rapt to have so many Dohne Merino Sheep from such a wide area represented.
On the Monday judging of the 2021 drop ewes and rams took place with the following results:

Single Ram First Place Macquarie
- Runner-up Ulooloo
Pair Rams First Place Ulooloo
- Runner-up Macquarie
Pair Ewe Hoggets First Place Clover Downs
- Runner-up Eagle Ridge

States’ Year in Review South Australia
South Australian ram sales for 2022 have seen a slight increase in clearance rate to 88% at an overall average of $1,684. This is slightly down on the 2021 average but still a strong result and offers value for range of budgets. The top price ($7200) and average ($2,769) were achieved by Mt Alma.
Demand for Dohne rams continues to grow across the state as more farmers are seeking a self replacing breed with the back up of quality performance data. The fertility, meat, bare breech and high quality wool characteristics of the Dohne are a highly attractive package that will continue to gain attention of those willing to move away from the “traditional” breeds.
