February Newsletter 2023

Council would like to inform members of the passing of former ADBA Approved Classer and Elders branch manager Clyde McKenzie who passed away in the first week of January 2023. Clyde serviced the Riverina district for 47 years as a wool buyer, over these year Clyde was the District Wool Manager for Elders, along with serving 12 years as the Deniliquin Branch Manager. Christmas Newsletter 2022

Council has again this year, been working on behalf of all members to promote the Dohne breed, uphold breed standards and ensure that the Dohne breed and the Association has a positive future. In addition to Councils' ongoing standard operations of facilitating the ADBA, the appointment of Kate Brabin (AOK) to undertake a review of both the Councils operations and improvements that can be made within the breed, has been a positive step. Ms Brabin is in the process of providing a report from her independent review, and this will be thoroughly considered at the Council Face-to-Face meeting in February. We look forward to a prosperous and fulfilling 2023, and wish all members and their families a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Continue reading

Dohne lamb proving popular
The Currey family has been breeding Dohne sheep for more than 12 years, with their lamb proving popular through their latest farm-to-plate venture, the Bogewong Butcher Co shop. Frustrated by a lack of control over lamb prices and keen to add value to their mixed farming operation, Mark and Caitlin Currey purchased an existing butcher shop in Walgett in January 2024. "The Dohne lambs have excellent growth rates and fat cover, and we're seeing a good amount of intramuscular fat coming through for improved eating quality, which is really pleasing.

When this happens, it's usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it or it's been deleted.
