Global Dohne Conferences

2018 Dohne Conference Uruguay

The Pre-Conference Tour of studs, a wool scouring plant and a research station in Uruguay showcased the quality of the pure registered Australian Dohne and the commercial Dohne/Corriedale cross. The impact the Dohne is having in Uruguay is quite remarkable. The conference held at the Durazno Rural Society saw 12 speakers from various countries deliver presentations covering a variety of industry topics relevant to local and international sheep breeders along with country Dohne association updates. The hospitality of the Uruguayans was second to none. Next edition we will report on Argentina and Chile Post-Conference Tour. Safe travelling to all delegates still making their way home. Phillip Venning became accredited as an Assessor for the Dohne Merino breed of sheep in 2004 and was widely respected for his adherence to strict standards of conformation and type. He was honoured by the Australian Dohne Breeders Association at a dinner in March 2025.
Phillip was almost the classic definition of stoic. He had a terrible year health-wise this year, yet only a few weeks ago when we asked him how he was going his response was this: I’m still upright and breathing.
It was good to see him encourage young people in the sheep industry, including his own granddaughters Georgia and Maddie.
He will be missed by many people who had come to respect him.

When this happens, it's usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it or it's been deleted.
