DOHNEMERINOA U S T R A L I A

Tasmania

Although Tasmania was the last Australian state to introduce the dohne the numbers increased rapidly once sheep producers realized the benefits.

The impact of the dohne over fine & superfine Merinos is dramatic with increased body weight, wool cut, hardiness & fertility whilst maintaining micron.

Tasmania has a cool temperate climate with a predominantly winter rainfall.
In the sheep producing areas annual average rainfall varies from 450mm in the midlands to 775mm in the east & 990mm in the north east.
The number of rainy days per year in Tasmania is much greater than any part of the Australian mainland.

This coupled with cold, snow laden wet winters shows the adaptability of the dohne & has the breed firmly entrenched in the Tasmania sheep industry.
