The diverseness of South Australian climates provides the perfect platform to display the adaptability and durability of the Dohne Merino breed. SA’s climate varies, from the mild wetter regions of the southeast coast and Mount Lofty Ranges to the hot and dry northern outback interior.

The terrain consists largely of arid and semi-arid rangelands, with several low mountain ranges. The pastoral zone of SA covers more than 80% of the state and the main production enterprise in this zone is sheep grazing.

The continual increase in the number of Dohne Merino rams sold to commercial sheep producers in SA over the past decade reflects support of the breeds attributes, and indicates a growing popularity in breed choice for meat and wool production.

SA represents approximately 12% of the National sheep population.
