This year's Dohne lamb auction for charity raised $2000 for the Cooperative Trials Group for Neuro-Oncology (COGNO). The sale of four Dohne lambs realised $500 a head for the charity. Australian Dohne Breeders Association president John Nadin, said the lambs were donated by Max and Ian Pilgrim, Minimay, and were bought by Midfield Meats. Continue reading

With a new layout to the Dohne Marquee, traffic flowed well around the sheep and fleeces on display. The Dohne show bags were a huge hit with approximately 400 being handed out, these show bags contained the 2019 Dohne Journal and the Dohne marquee show booklet. Again this year record numbers of people visited the Dohne display over all three days. Continue reading

Now that it is the beginning of lamb marking season, it is timely to encourage breeders to submit their Visual Scores to Brett Wilson with their lamb pedigree data. The best value for effort is still to score for Breech cover (BCOV) and Breech wrinkle (BRWR) at marking. The Dohne and Dohne Cross Lamb Carcass Appraisal Day saw more than 20 sheep producers from across Victoria and New South Wales attend this event at Midfield Group in Warrnambool.The Dohne carcasses had a beautiful shape, length and width with good long bodies and were true to type, with not too much fat so no trimming was required on the carcasses. Respected Clare-based sheep classer Phillip Venning was doing what he loved right up until the end of his life.
Phil is being remembered for his considerable impact on many commercial Merino and Dohne flocks, not just in SA but also Vic and NSW, as well as being a recognised shearing judge.
